Year 4 - reminder...swimming sessions start on Monday

25 April 2025 (by admin)

Dear Year 4 Families,

A reminder that swimming for Year 4 starts this coming Monday, 28th April.

The sessions will take place across 10 weeks, every Monday up to 14th July. (Please note that swimming will not take place on Bank Holiday 5th May as school is closed)

For the swimming sessions, you will need to ensure that your child has the following kit for them to take part in the lessons:
• Boys: Must wear swimming trunks (NO SHORTS) and a swimming hat.
• Girls: Must wear a 1-piece swimming suit and a swimming hat.
• All Pupils: a towel and a kit bag to carry swimwear.
Swimming goggles are allowed but these are not essential.

(If pupils do not have the above, they will not be allowed to swim. This is a Davenant’s policy.)

Swimming sessions will count as a P.E. session for the week, so P.E days for the summer term for Year 4 are now Mondays and Thursdays (no longer Fridays).

As parents, you will need to decide if you allow your child to wear swimwear under their P.E. kits. They will be in the pool at 11.10am, so if they do come to school with swimwear underneath their clothing, they must be able to go to the toilet themselves in the interim and feel comfortable wearing them for a few hours. Of course, the class are given time to change into their swimwear on arrival at the pool. From our experience, children who wear swimwear under their P.E. kits to school are more likely to forget to pack underwear to change into after swimming. For this reason, always have a spare pair of underwear in their swimming bags.

Lastly, to limit any anxieties, please make sure the children practise putting on their own swimming hat and goggles, and that they are confident in changing into and out of their swimwear.

With kind regards,

Coopersale and Theydon Garnon C.E. Primary School
